Ablative or hard matrix? The choice depends on your use!
A hard matrix, Nautix A4, is perfect for a fast boat or one that runs aground. More rubresistant, it is recommended if you sponge-clean your hull regularly.
An ablative antifouling, Nautix A3, will be suitable for boats, motor or sailboat, going at
a cruising speed of less than 30 knots. It will always be more versatile than a hard
matrix, especially if the boat sails irregularly.
It is also more effective during periods of heavy fouling or in difficult harbour conditions.
Choosing a Nautix top of the range antifouling will ensure your boat glides better,
cause less engine damage and therefore save fuel.
OVERCOATING OR SANDING ?
It is advised that you water-sand your antifouling with 80-120 every year, before
applying your antifouling. This will remove the hydrolysed resin from the old paint,
improve the adhesion of the new coats and the glide of the boat.
If you notice cracks or other “weaknesses” on your hull, it means that your coating
system starts to be weak. It is suggested to consider sanding back to primer and repaint
a complete cycle: primer + antifouling.
Some tips and tricks:
• If you are unsure at the time of overcoating about your old antifouling type, you
can apply Nautix P1 primer as a barrier coat and ensure the full effectiveness
of your new coats.
• Never apply a hard matrix antifouling over an ablative one.
• Apply two coats of antifouling to ensure that you have the necessary amount
of antifouling products to be effective all year round.
• Nautix antifoulings are compatible with most antifoulings on the market.
